The Baltimore Orioles hold their Spring Training here in Sarasota and I received a call from art director Amanda White of Baltimore Magazine who was looking for a photographer in the area to shoot a portrait of the Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter for their April issue. She had checked out my website and liked my work, particularly a couple of older images that she thought would work well with the feel of the article, I agreed and she hired me.
Mr. Showalter was pretty busy with all the baseball activities starting to ramp up in preparation of his first full season with the team so I went to the stadium and scouted a few locations and was told I would have about an hour with him. I actually ended up only having 30 minutes to shoot him but managed to squeeze in 3-4 different looks with a few random outtakes in between. I only used one light, my little Nikon sb-800 bounced into a half opened umbrella for these shots which worked well as we had to move quickly from the stands down to the dugout with limited time and it was just me doing the moving. I was happy with the results and so was Amanda, which counts a little bit more!
Here are some shots and you can see the article online at: Baltimore Magazine
