Englewood Amateur Radio Society ran a field test of emergency broadcast operations in the Englewood United Methodist Church parking lot. Everything was run by generator to simulate disaster conditions. A couple of the guys here actually used their radios to call in help when hurricane Charlie came through the area in 2004. Cell phones, internet and land lines were all down so radio was the only way to communicate with the outside world.
Seems like a dying art but it’s good to know it hasn’t completely gone the way of the dodo.
